What is DHI (Direct Hair Transplant)?

What is the difference between DHI and FUE methods?

Using the FUE method, first, doctor harvests hair follicles from the donor area. They are sorted by an assistant and put aside. After that doctor formes channels in the transplant area, into which the previously collected follicles are then transplanted.

With the DHI method, doctor harvests hair follicles (grafts) with a special medical instrument, similar to a pen, and immediately transplants them to the needed area. It is not required to pre-form the canals, which reduces the time spent by the grafts outside the body and increases their viability.

FUE hair transplant stages
  1. Removal of hair follicles from the donor area
  2. Sorting grafts and collecting required number
  3. Formation of canals in the transplant area
  4. Follicle transplantation

DHI hair transplant stages
  1. Removal of hair follicles from the donor area
  2. Canals opening and simultaneous follicles transplantation

What are the advantages of the DHI method?

  • Hair follicles harvested from the donor area are kept outside the body for a very short time. The shorter this time is, the less damage is caused to the hair roots.
  • The DHI method allows more frequent placement of the transplanted hair roots. Therefore, you get thicker and more natural looking hair.
  • With a DHI transplant recovery is faster and wounds after transplantation visually look much better.
  • It is easier for a doctor to achieve desired level of inclination during transplantation, according to the direction of hair growth.
  • The DHI method allows you to perform the transplant procedure without shaving your head. This advantage is important, especially if a woman needs a hair transplant.
